Kanto TUKP G2 Passive Bookshelf Speaker

Our Take

We've always liked what Kanto has done with the TUK series. It's one of those speakers that manages to bridge the gap between modern lifestyle audio and traditional HiFi, combining thoughtful design with some genuinely interesting acoustic engineering.

With the new Kanto TUK Passive, Kanto has taken the same philosophy behind its powered TUK speakers and given listeners something we've always appreciated in a proper HiFi system: the freedom to choose their own amplifier.

And that's really what makes the TUK Passive interesting to us.

Instead of having the amplification and electronics built into the speakers, the TUK Passive allows you to pair them with an amplifier of your choice. Whether it's a compact integrated amplifier, a dedicated stereo HiFi setup or a modern streaming amplifier, you have the flexibility to build a system around your own listening preferences.

What particularly caught our attention is that Kanto has retained the 28mm x 35mm Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeters, paired with newly developed 5.25-inch Aircomb aluminium woofers.

This is an interesting combination at its price point. The AMT tweeters are designed to reproduce high frequencies with excellent speed and precision, while the aluminium woofers aim to deliver controlled bass and clean, articulate midrange.

Compared to the smaller YU Passive speakers, the TUK Passive feels like a more ambitious approach to traditional bookshelf HiFi, especially for listeners who appreciate hearing the finer details in their recordings.

We also like the fact that the TUK Passive doesn't try too hard to look like conventional HiFi equipment. Its clean proportions and understated cabinet design make it easy to integrate into a living room, study or dedicated listening space without compromising the overall aesthetics.

Our take? The TUK Passive is a welcome addition to Kanto's lineup. It's a speaker that gives you the flexibility of traditional HiFi while retaining the contemporary design and character that make Kanto products so appealing.

For someone who already owns a good integrated amplifier or is considering building a compact stereo system from scratch, the TUK Passive is definitely worth putting on the shortlist.

Not everyone wants an all-in-one system. Sometimes, choosing your own amplifier and building a setup around a good pair of speakers is part of the enjoyment of HiFi.

Product Details

The Kanto TUK Passive Bookshelf Speakers combine advanced acoustic engineering, premium driver technology and contemporary cabinet design in a compact passive stereo speaker system.

Developed for listeners who prefer the flexibility of external amplification, the TUK Passive features precision Air Motion Transformer tweeters, newly developed 5.25-inch Aircomb aluminium woofers and carefully engineered enclosures designed to deliver detailed, expressive sound.

Unlike the powered TUK models, the TUK Passive requires an external amplifier, allowing listeners to select their preferred amplification, streaming components and other HiFi equipment.

At the heart of the TUK Passive are 28mm x 35mm Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeters, designed to deliver excellent high-frequency clarity, fast transient response and precise reproduction of subtle musical details.

These are paired with 5.25-inch Aircomb aluminium woofers, engineered to provide controlled bass reproduction, articulate midrange and reduced unwanted driver deformation.

With a 50Hz–22kHz frequency response and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, the TUK Passive is designed for use with compatible HiFi amplifiers capable of driving 4-ohm speaker loads.

Its redesigned, hand-built cabinetry combines acoustic functionality with clean, modern proportions, making the TUK Passive suitable for contemporary living spaces and dedicated listening environments.
